Sustainable Preservation Initiative, Global, 2014-2019
SPI implements programs to create sustainable community businesses linked to cultural heritage to increase local development and heritage preservation. These projects have been successful in creating long-term quality employment for participants and halting destructive behavior at heritage sites.
As Director of Projects, I was responsible for SPI’s project strategy, including monitoring and evaluation of projects. I developed SPI’s ‘Business School’, a methodology for project managers to build sustainable local businesses and teach entrepreneurial skills to participants. This methodology has since been implemented by the UN Office for Project Services. I managed in-country teams and implemented projects in Peru, Guatemala, Tanzania, Bulgaria, Turkey and Jordan. I continue to work with SPI as a Research Associate.
